Hiking in Cape Range National Park
The trip provides other activities in addition to kayaking and snorkeling.
Ningaloo Reef borders Cape Range National Park which is very popular with campers and hikers and offers a number of great hiking trails. On the second afternoon of our trip we travel to Yardie Gorge and enjoy a sunset walk. The gorge is the only permanent water source in the National Park and we walk along the edge of this beautiful water-filled gorge spotting black-footed rock wallabies as they feed at dusk. On the way back we stop to watch the sun as it sets over the range. Such a beautiful sight !!
We do a second walk in the National Park on Thursday morning straight after breakfast before it gets too hot. This time we head through the Mandu Mandu Gorge from where we climb to the top of Cape Range. Some parts of the track involve scrambling over a few rocks, the walk takes about an hour and a half and the sun heats up quickly and as we flick flies from our face we are grateful for the fly nets which Neri has provided. I would not fancy doing this in the height of summer but getting to the end of the climb is well worth it. We arrive at the top to find fantastic views over the coastal plain, lagoons, fringing reef, surf and of course the beautiful blue ocean where where we will be kayaking after we finish.
