Hello, my name is Vanessa Fretwell

I’m a London native living in Sydney, Australia since 2007 where I’ve been working as an IT Client Sales Executive.

I am passionate about the environment and protecting wildlife and never travel anywhere without my water bottle, keep cup and bamboo straws, picking up plastic as I go.

Australia gives me great opportunities to indulge in my passions of outdoor yoga, kayaking and hiking. But don’t be fooled into thinking I’m a clean living outdoor girl. I’m a true party-going Londoner at heart and love good food and wine, staying in posh hotels and sharing laughter and stories with people I meet on my travels.

The Technology Industry gave me a lot, a good salary, the money to travel and explore new places and to create a ( hopefully) secure financial future but it was also very demanding and work / life balance can be tough to achieve.

So I decided to get off the treadmill, rid myself of the things which were tying me down and do something completely different.

I sold an investment property in April 2019 but instead of reinvesting the funds I put half of the money into my Superannuation fund and am using the balance to travel. And here I am…. a single Baby Boomer embarking on my very own, considerably overdue, Gap Year.

There will be challenges of course but I hope my blog inspires you to explore new places and take on new experiences.

After all we only have one life so let’s live it to the full.
