The madness that is Antananarivo
Antananarivo (or Tana as it’s known by the locals) is the capital of Madagascar, home to around 3 million people and the hub for international flight arrivals.
Tana is not for the faint hearted and assaults your senses in every way possible. It’s loud, the traffic is insane, you have to constantly side step souvenir vendors waiting outside your hotel ready to pounce and also avoid groups of children trying to get you to part with your money. But it also has a great charm and as long as you have your street smarts about you, can speak a little French and don’t go out bedecked in jewellery and flashing cameras it doesn’t feel any more dangerous than other major cities I’ve travelled to.
